Editorial Review of Aliyah: Do-it-yourself Zionism (Told in Haiku Poetry)

In 1976, journalist-teacher Sylvia Mehlman and her husband Joe put their money where their dreams were and came to live in Israel. She wrote freelance articles for Anglo-Jewish publications, taught English to Japanese, served as the national president of Hadassah-Israel and published books of Haiku poetry. At eighty-eight, widowed and physically infirm, she continues to write, reads voraciously, follows current news compulsively and watches ER and The West Wing. She lives in Jerusalem with caregiver- collaborator Marjorie Granpil, and thinks she can pass for eighty-seven.
