Review Summary: I LOVE Jill Scott, but I didn't get it!
Review: I LOVE Jill Scott, I'm probably one of her biggest fans. I see her in concert every chance I get, I think she's magical and wonderful. But the book....I DON'T GET IT. It wasn't what I expected. I get more about her from the music she write than the poems I read in this book. Just my opinion.

Review Summary: songtress poetry
Review: It should have been expected that a great musical artist would be a great poetic artist...sort of goes hand-in-hand. Short poems with a powerful punch. As a fan of Jill Scott, I recommend this book.

Review Summary: I was expecting so much more from Ms.Scott
Review: This has got to be the worst poetry book that I have ever read in my entire life. And I am in no way exaggerating my experience with this book. Alicia Keys book is about 1,000 times more interesting than this piece of garbage. First of all, I had problems with the grammatical aspect of the poetry. Ms. Scott is an intelligent well spoken black woman. Why does she have the need to put "gon' be's" and "nothins" in every single damn poem. Do we black woman even talk like that anymore? I love my race and am proud to be black but it seemed to me like Jill was sterotyping her own race. You'd have to read specific lines to know what i'm talking about. Also the variety, or the lack thereof, frustrated me too. The only thing she talked about was forlorn and fast woman with "thick bodies" and promiscuous ways. No love poems, no nature poetry, no epiphany poems, nothing new.
Bottom line i'm glad that I bought this used. It's not good at all and she is another fine example of a singer with mediocre poetry writing talent who got a book deal because of "who she is."

Review Summary: Amazing
Review: This book is incredible!!! i always knew from her music that she was an intense poet, but this book was the most inspiring read i've come across yet. Everytime i open it whatever i read, gets me wanting to step away and write something of my own. She paints beautiful pictures with her words, that you can relate to, feel and see clearly. Some of the poems bring tears to my eyes, some make me wanna read or even sing them outloud. She's a true poet and a true talent....if you have any love for poetry, you'd beat yourself up for missing this one
