Editorial Review of The Holy War

Once upon a time in the town of Mansoul, a fierce battle raged to take control away from the rightful Prince. Who will be the conquering Prince? Diabolus or Emmanuel? And what can the inhabitants do to resist the attacks of the evil one? Your soul is under attack from the forces of evil.

Through this powerful allegory, you will learn how to:
Build up your defenses, flood your moat, and prepare for war!
Bunyan will illuminate your understanding and show you:
When your will is in line with Christ, you can accomplish anything
Spiritual attack is constant and can be deadly
The enemy will stop at nothing to possess your soul
Christ the Conqueror is on your side and with His help, you have nothing to fear!

Review Summary: excellent visual aid
Review: This is an excellent book for those who are " visual people" for whom analogy gives insight into spritual reality.
While the author's story is invented - I'd say visionary - he maintains faithfulness to scriptural truth. This book helps a believer to see the world and the fall of man as it truly is - a military coup of Satan. It therefore helps the believer to uncover his works both to enslave mankind and to keep the believer from communion with Shaddai God.For the messianics out there it is pleasant to find the use of Shaddai and Emanuel
and the positive light given to the " law of Shaddai".
Strange words for the supposedly anti semitic church.

Review Summary: This is the modern english version
Review: I just bought this edition, and was disapointed to learn that it is an updated, modern english edition of the original. I prefer to read books as they were first written, whenever possible.

From the brief comparisons I've made, it seems that this edition comes across somewhat less colorful than Bunyan's original, as the revisionist appears to have tried to simplify the vocabulary rather than merely updating it.

Review: I read this book for a class but I am glad to have read. This book is a great historical read. I found that it helped renew my defences as a christian.

Review Summary: Solid Allegorical Fiction
Review: This is a masterpiece. Believe it or not, in some ways I found it more invigorating than Pilgrim's Progress. Mainly because the conclusion and progression of the tale were slightly less obvious.

Bunyan masterfully illustrates personalities and the conflict/struggle that is going on.

This is great imaginative fiction with good spiritual application. This would be a great book to go through as a group and study/discuss.
